Automated plate handling: printing plates sorted just-in-time
The newspaper operates with tough deadlines and requires continuous production. In order to exploit the greatest potential for rationalization, the exposed printing plates should not only be processed at high speed, but must also be delivered just-in-time in the correct sequence at the right place.
The press control planning system reports to the workflow system, which plates it needs for the next print job. These are then exposed and developed in the correct sequence. The plates are identified by barcodes, punched in the correct position, bended and sorted into the dedicated plate sorting station. Screens display their position to the printers. We call the interaction of the control station, workflow system CTP imaging and automated plate handling with sorting PlateLogistics and, if desired, it can be carried out right into the press.
